Pride New Zealand

Pride New Zealand is going to be a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to strengthen and unite LGBTTQI+ communities across Aotearoa. Our vision is to break down silos between community groups by fostering collaboration, sharing resources, and co-developing projects that create meaningful, sustainable outcomes for the LGBTTQI+ community.

We are seeking funding to establish Pride New Zealand as a national coordinating body that empowers community groups to work collectively, amplifies their impact, and reduces duplicated effort, ensuring resources are used effectively for the benefit of our communities.

Background & Rationale

Currently, many LGBTTQI+ not-for-profit organisations in New Zealand work independently to deliver vital services, advocacy, and community-building initiatives. While these groups are doing incredible mahi, working in silos often leads to duplicated effort, strain on limited resources, and missed opportunities for collective impact.

Pride New Zealand aims to act as a unifying force, providing the infrastructure and support for collaboration across the sector. By doing so, we will:

  • Reduce duplication of effort across organisations.
  • Enable more efficient use of funding and volunteer time.
  • Provide a platform to share resources, tools, and knowledge while making these open source.
  • Strengthen collective advocacy for LGBTTQI+ rights and wellbeing.
  • Build sustainable partnerships across Aotearoa.

The goals of Pride New Zealand are to:

  1. Unite Community Groups, Create a national collaborative platform where LGBTTQI+ not-for-profits and community organisations come together to work on shared projects.
  2. Develop and Share Resources, Build and distribute shared resources (e.g., policy templates, educational materials, governance guides, wellbeing frameworks) that benefit all groups and provide an open source platform for these to be on for anyone to access.
  3. Amplify Collective Impact, Coordinate efforts to achieve stronger outcomes for LGBTTQI+ communities nationwide.
  4. Strengthen Advocacy, Provide a united voice on issues affecting LGBTTQI+ people in New Zealand.
  5. Build Capacity, Support smaller organisations by reducing administrative burdens and offering shared expertise.
